Chapter 420
Andy raised an eyebrow as he wondered, 'Oh? What could it be?" "Mr. Andy Evans, shall I invite Mr. Edgar Evans in?" Ethan asked.
"No rush." Andy shook his head, narrowing his eyes, which gleamed with sharp intent. "If he wants to enter the Evans residence, he must do so of his own accord. Let's wait."
"Understood," Ethan replied Andy thought, 'He's already here. How much longer could he wait?' *****
Outside the gates, Josiah extinguished his cigarette, exhaling a long breath, before pushing open the car door and stepping out.
As soon as Josiah's feet touched the ground, the heavy iron gates swung open automatically. At the entrance, Ethan stood waiting with a few people, greeting him with a deep bow. "Mr. Evans, please come in."
Josiah cast a glance at Ethan but said nothing and simply strode forward. He knew-Andy was expecting him.
In the living room, Andy, as always, was preparing coffee when Josiah entered. Without lifting his head, Andy gestured to the couch opposite him. "You're here? Have a seat." Josiah remained silent but obeyed, sinking into the seat.
"Hmm?" Confused, Andy lifted his gaze, and the corners of his lips curled into a mocking smirk. "So quiet today?" Every time Josiah was here, he made a commotion. "Well. Now, this silence is unsettling," Andy said.
Faced with the taunt, Josiah remained tight-lipped. There was no trace of amusement on his face. He hadn't gone there to exchange pleasantries.
"What's wrong?" Andy stopped laughing upon noticing Josiah's demeanor. "Something happened?"
Their eyes met, and Josiah hesitated for two seconds before he finally spoke. "I need to find someone."
Andy raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
"Someone you don't know." Josiah shook his head. His gaze darkened as he leaned forward slightly. "I need your network." As soon as he said that, both Andy and Josiah fell into a stunned silence. Silence stretched between them.
Josiah had been weighing this decision since leaving the Fischer residence the previous night. The connections he once wielded had all belonged to the Flynn family-connections that Miranda had strictly forbidden him from using.
Josiah was willing to swallow his pride and ask for help for Joyce's sake. However, hesitation still bound his hands and feet.
Joyce was waiting for him to save her life.
Meanwhile, Sienna was in the hospital, shedding tears. Overnight, she had become as thin as a wisp of paper. Josiah could throw away his dignity and forsake his self-respect, but only if he had control over the situation.
The only place that could allow Josiah the freedom to act as he pleased was the Evans family. After careful consideration, he came here.
A brief silence fell between them before Andy's lips curved into a meaningful smile. "So, you want my connections?"
"Yes." Josiah took a deep breath and nodded Andy did not answer right away. Instead, he asked, "It won't be a temporary affair once you use my connections. Once you step in, there's no turning back." After a brief pause, his voice deepened. "I assume you've thought this through before coming?"
"Yes." Josiah closed his eyes briefly, then nodded.
Andy had long been waiting for an opportunity to pull Josiah back into the affairs of the Evans family. And now, it had been delivered to him on a silver platter.noveldrama
It was too simple a matter for Josiah not to have considered the implications. That was why he had lingered at the doorway for so long. To say he wasn't hesitant would be a lie considering how much he despised the Evans family.
The Evans residence at Clearbay Estates bore witness to Josiah's nightmare of a childhood. For over a decade, he had fought hard to escape the Evans family. Who would have thought that, in the end, fate would drag him right back to this place?
However, Josiah needed this power and wealth. In this world, nobody could truly resist the pull of money and influence and Josiah was no exception.
Andy studied Josiah, the corners of his lips curling upward as he pressed, "Have you made up your mind?"
"Mm." Josiah drew in a slow breath before nodding once more.
"Good." Andy let out a low, satisfied chuckle without a moments hesitation. "Very well." He did not bother asking what Josiah intended to do with the resources at his disposal. It was enough as long as he was willing to return to the Evans family.
Andy then looked at Ethan. "Ethan."
"Yes, Mr. Andy Evans." Ethan immediately came over.
Andy pointed at Josiah. "From this moment on, you will follow Edgar's every order. I expect absolute obedience.
Understood?"
"Understood." Ethan did not ask any further questions. Instead, he turned to Josiah and bowed. "Mr. Edgar Evans, please give your instructions, please." That single utterance-Mr. Edgar Evans- carried a weight far beyond what it ever had before.
Josiah nodded slightly. "I need you to find someone. Find him within two days, no matter what."
The weather was dreary today at the hospital-gray skies stretched endlessly overhead and fine drizzle fell from the clouds.
There were more tests to be done. Sienna carried Joyce in her arms as they followed a nurse through the corridors of the treatment building.
"Mommy," Joyce asked with confusion. "Where's Mr. Flynn?"
A sharp pain pierced Sienna's heart, but she maintained her smile.
"Josiah is busy today. He can't be with us, Joyce, but I'm here, okay?"
"Oh..." Joyce pouted in
disappointment. "Yesterday, Mr. Flynn said he'd stay with me for the next few days." She thought, 'Mr.
Flynn broke his promise. Joyne
blinked her round eyes. "What about Uncle Conner? Doesn't he need to do his checkups too?"
That question was like a knife, stabbing deep into Sienna's already
wounded heart. "Your Uncle
bel. Ps
Conner.." Sienna fought to keep her voice steady, to hold herself together in front of Joyce. "He has finished his tests and doesn't need any more today," she replied.
"Oh, okay." Joyce nodded enviously. "That's nice."
"Be good, Joyce." Sienna carried Joyce into the examination room.
"Just two more tests to go, and we're done."
"Okay," Joyce chirped obediently.
By midday, Joyce had completed all her tests. After lunch, she drifted into a peaceful nap, with Tara keeping watch by her bedside.
Meanwhile, Sienna changed into fresh clothes, slung her bag over her shoulder, and quietly left the inpatient building. Larry had yet to call her, and she couldn't just sit around waiting for news.
After leaving the hospital, Sienna headed straight for the Fischer residence. Unlike the night before, she did not barge in recklessly.
She understood now-begging them wouldn't work. Tania would never yield.
At the gates of the Fischer residence, Sienna waited silently in the shadows. A single thought burned in her mind-if Tania had hidden Conner, there was a chance she would visit him.
Even if the odds were a mere one in ten thousand, there was still hope as long as Sienna followed Tania.
Afraid of being discovered, Sienna had not driven. Instead, she stood under the cover of her umbrella.
Finally, after an hour of patient waiting, the courtyard gate creaked open, and Tania stepped out.
At 6 p.m., Cedric stopped by the hospital after work, as usual, to check in. To his surprise, Sienna was nowhere to be seen. "Where's Sienna?" he asked. "Well.." Tara hesitated, glancing toward the room where Joyce was watching a cartoon. Lowering her voice, she quickly recounted what had happened to Conner.
Stunned, Cedric could not believe such a thing had happened. He couldn't imagine how devastated Sienna must be right now.
"Where did she go?" he asked.
Tara knew the answer was Sienna had informed her before she left.
"She went to the Fischer residence," she said.
"Do you have the address?" Cedric asked.
"Yes," Tara replied.
"Tell me," Cedric demanded.
"Sure," Tara said Cedric took the address and hurried to the Fischer residence No sooner had he left than Josiah arrived. Josiah asked the same question when he failed to
see Sienna. Tara let out a long sigh and gave him the same answer.
"I see." Josiah turned and left without a moment's delay. "Take good care of
Joyce."
"Uh, Mr. Flynn..." Tara was surprised that Josiah had left so quickly.
She didn't even have time to tell him that Cedric had already gone ahead.
When Josiah arrived at the Fischer residence, he found neither Sienna nor Cedric. He pulled out his phone and was just about to call Sienna when he spotted a car approaching. Swiftly, he stepped aside, concealing himself in the shadows.
The gates of the Fischer residence swung open, allowing the vehicle to glide inside. A moment later, through the downpour, Sienna came rushing in-her breath ragged, an umbrella clutched in her hand as she ran toward the entrance.
What do you think?
