Chapter 50
Today was the day of the Fulton family gathering.
In the afternoon, Xavier wrapped up work early and headed back to Fulton Manor.
He figured that by now, Lily must have calmed down from their recent conflicts.
This family event could serve as a chance for her to admit her mistakes.
His Maybach pulled into the driveway, and as he got out, he realized he didn't see Lily's car.
Then he remembered that her car had been totaled.
The image of her disheveled state, with her forehead wrapped in a bandage, flashed through his mind.
If she behaved well today, maybe he would buy her a new car.
After all, he wasn't a stingy man.
As he walked into the mansion, Xavier removed his shoes and coat. Then he made his way further inside.
In the living room, Edith and Shane were sitting and having tea. Both of them turned to glance toward the entrance.
"Where's Lily?" Shane asked. He frowned slightly when he saw no one trailing behind Xavier.
Lily hadn't arrived yet?
Xavier's brow furrowed as he pondered for a moment. "She should be here soon," he replied.
Normally, Lily would have arrived by the morning,
A stormy expression darkened his eyes as he loosened his tie and headed upstairs to speak with Tamara in the study about some work matters.
An hour later, he emerged and paused at the second-floor landing to glance downstairs.
The scene remained unchanged. Only Shane and Edith remained in the living room.
Xavier turned back and went into the bedroom. He pulled up the surveillance feed on his phone.
It was nearly 6:00 pm, and the villa was bathed in dim light and shrouded in silence.
Lily wasn't at home.
He patiently rewound the footage and discovered that shortly after he had left the other day, she had departed with her suitcase.
It seemed that as long as Hayden's situation remained unresolved, Lily wouldn't be at peace.
He called Timothy.
"Track down Mrs. Fulton's whereabouts over the past few days."noveldrama
Timothy's heart sank at Xavier's tone. "Yes, Mr. Fulton."
Within ten minutes, Timothy reported back. "Mrs. Fulton has rented an apartment at Bayview Gardens. Today, she went hiking with Ms. Devereux."
Since he had only checked Lily's activities from the past two days, he hadn't discovered her plan to start working at Lupier next week.
Nor did he uncover that the car picking her up today didn't just have Maryanne in it but also Terence.
She had even gone as far as renting a new place. This signaled that she was more serious this time compared to before.
Timothy hesitated before continuing, "These past few days, Mr. Joyner has been calling me non-stop, asking me to find a way to get Hayden out, or else..."
His meaning was clear enough.
"Or else what?" Xavier asked coldly.
"Or else he's going to push Mrs. Fulton to divorce you," Timothy replied with apprehension.
He had always believed that Lily wouldn't fully side with Bobby, which was why he had been stalling Bobby's demands and pressing Sylvester to expedite the process. He couldn't believe Lily had actually moved out.
Could she really be following Bobby's wishes?
Xavier was incensed. He snapped the pencil in his hand cleanly in half.
"Keep a close watch on everything Mrs. Fulton does, and monitor the Joyner family too. Report back immediately if they make any move," he ordered.
He couldn't take any risks. If the Joyners tried to use the hidden marriage as leverage, it could bring unnecessary trouble to Nova Group.
After ending the call, Xavier tossed the broken pen into the trash and got up to head downstairs.
As he reached the living room, he saw Edith holding her phone with a worried expression. "Xavier, why hasn't Lily arrived yet? I can't get through to her. Do you think something's happened?"
What do you think?
