Chapter 698
A handkerchief appeared in front of Selena, and the man's voice was as gentle as ever. "Here, wipe your tears."
Selena glanced sideways at him. Callum was smiling softly, his smile always having a soothing, calming effect. "Thank you," she said.
She took the handkerchief and dabbed at her tears, but they kept coming, quickly soaking the fabric. Callum sighed beside her. "Selena," he said gently, "Everett always makes you cry. What is it about him that you love?"
Her eyes drifted back to the still figure on the hospital bed. She shook her head slowly, her voice rough with emotion. "I don't know. He's so awful. I can't even explain what I see in him."
Despite her words, Callum knew all too well that Everett had completely claimed her heart, leaving no room for anyone else. He had already given up the last shred of hope he had harbored.
There was a sense of melancholy in Callum, but also a release. While he might have lost a chance at love, gaining a brother and a good friend didn't seem like a bad trade-off.
He paused, his expression turning serious. "Selena, you need to listen closely to what I'm about to say. It's important, and you'll need to make a crucial decision."
Selena blinked, momentarily taken aback, then turned to face him, wiping away her tears and steeling herself.
"Everett's condition is dire. If we don't intervene, he might never wake up. And even if he does, he won't have much time left."
"My plan was to keep his condition stable until we could find a new heart. If he played along with the treatment, we could have stretched his time by a few years. With Bennett Corporation's resources and my contacts, there's a real chance we could find a suitable donor."
Callum glanced at Everett through the glass, his voice dropping with a hint of a choke, "But you know, life doesn't always go the way we plan."
Selena's hands clenched tight, nails digging into her palms, but she felt no pain.
"The only path left is risky. We've been working on artificial heart trials in Germany and we've made some major breakthroughs. Everett could be a candidate, but you know how it is with groundbreaking trials-there are countless unknowns. This would be his second transplant, which could lead to unpredictable complications..."
Selena understood Callum's words. Everett didn't have time to wait for a heart donor, they had to consider artificial heart. The risks were sky-high, with no guarantee of success. And even if it worked, the side effects could be unimaginable.
It was a tough call, no matter how she looked at it.
Callum watched Selena's pale face, feeling a twinge of sympathy. Even the best doctors can be helpless sometimes.noveldrama
Selena didn't rush her decision. After a long pause, she lifted her head, her voice almost pleading. "Can I go in and talk to Everett?"
Callum nodded. "I'll make the arrangements."
Half an hour later, Selena, dressed in protective gear, entered the hospital room. She stood by the bed and gently took Everett's hand. The man who had always been so powerful now lay there, frail and defenseless.
She wanted to tease him, but the tears came before the words. She took a deep breath, forcing them back, then pulled up a chair and pressed his hand against her cheek. Her dark eyes, misty with tears, gazed at his still handsome face.
"Everett, I read your will. Besides leaving everything to me, you only managed to
scribble six words..."
What do you think?
