Chapter 71
Love Story7-Chapter 1
On the night I rushed home, a torrential rain hit, but I didn't hesitate for a second.
Today was the anniversary of my marriage to Easton Morris. In the past, we always spent it together, but this year, I had to attend a networking event at my boss's invitation to expand my connections. To get home early, I didn't mind drinking half a bottle of strong liquor.
The phone rang.
Easton's voice, full of magnetism yet tinged with concern, came through.
"It's pouring outside. What time will you be done? Do you want me to come pick you up?"
The alcohol began to take effect, and thinking of Easton's gentle and caring face, a smile of happiness crept up my lips.
"No need. I'll probably finish here around midnight. If you're tired, go ahead and sleep, don't wait for me."noveldrama
Easton sounded a bit unhappy.
"Today is our anniversary. Did you forget?"
"How could I forget? But something urgent came up. I'll make it up to you tomorrow, okay?"
I patiently reassured him, though my hand held a document folder.
We had been married for five years, and Easton had always been the same toward me. The only thing that bothered him was that all the assets under my name were my premarital property.
He often said that his career wasn't as successful as mine, and he didn't have as much wealth, which made him feel insecure, afraid I might be taken away.
So, I decided to transfer a property worth ten million under my name to his on our fifth wedding anniversary.
When I arrived home, the rain hadn't stopped in the dark night.
The gate of the villa was slightly open, and warm yellow lights filtered out from inside.
"Easton, you've only been married a few years, yet you act so high and mighty. We all know what kind of guy you were in college."
The voices inside made me stop in my tracks at the door.
Easton's clear laughter rang out, causing a tight feeling in my chest.
"Isn't it just about facing Amina Reed? I have to act the part, she loves that kind of thing."
"How does she love it? Don't tell me- Amina, with her pure, sweet looks, was the dream girl of every guy in the school. No one thought you'd get her. Tell the guys, how's she in bed? Is she any good?" The crude words cut through me like the cold wind of the rainy night, stinging my face.
Easton chuckled lightly, his tone dripping with disdain.
"After a while, it's nothing special. Plus, with what happened back then, she's very resistant to it. We only do it once every ten days or so. It's pretty boring."
"Wasn't it you who violated her back then? Since everything's been settled, why marry her?" one of his friends continued.
"I married her so she'll always feel inferior to me, obedient to my every command."
Easton's words felt like a sharp blade, stabbing deeply into my heart.
Five years ago, when I first entered college, I went to a bar for the first time at the encouragement of my best friend Kaylee.
It was that one time that sent my life into a free fall.
Just one drink, and I lost consciousness.
What do you think?
