Caught In His Embrace: A Second Chance Romance

Chapter 426

Ethan froze and shook his head. "I don't know..."

"You don't know?" Andy was furious.

His son was in this state because of her, and that woman hadn't even shown up.

"Tie her up and bring her here! If anything happened to Edgar, Sienna would have to pay for it!"

"I got it. Mr. Evans."

*****

"Ouch!" Sienna accidentally cut her finger while peeling an apple for Joyce, and blood gushed out.

"Oh, my!" Tara, who was beside her, saw it and quickly handed her a tissue. "What are you thinking about? Are you peeling the apple or yourself? Quick. Go to the nurses' station and let the nurse take care of it."

"Okay." Sienna nodded absentmindedly, covered her bleeding finger with a tissue, got up, and went out.

As soon as she came out, somebody barged through the door.

Ethan had arrived with his men.

Sienna had met Ethan before. Her heart sank, and the cut on her finger seemed to throb with pain.

'Mr. Brown is here. Has something bad happened to Josiah?' she wondered.

"Just in time..." Ethan said, restraining himself. He stretched out his arm. "For Mr.

Edgar Evans' sake, I won't use force. Please come with me..."

Sienna frowned but did not resist. She said nothing and walked ahead.

*****

Josiah had been transferred from the emergency department to the internal medicine VIP building.

"Please," Ethan said, standing at the door of the ward. He opened the door and pushed Sienna inside.

Sienna staggered, almost falling. She frowned, steadied herself, and stood firm.

In the living room, Andy sat upright on the couch, looking up. His cold gaze fixed on her.

He lifted a finger, commanding his men, "Tie her up."

"Okay. Mr. Evans."

Sienna's heart skipped a beat.

Two bodyguards immediately stepped forward, ropes in hand.

They moved around her, binding her upper body.

"What are you doing?" Sienna exclaimed in shock, but her struggles proved futile.

She glared at Andy. "Let me go! You have no right to do this!"

Andy ignored her words. Staring at her, he pointed inside. "Are you heartless? Look. Look closely."

Through a large glass wall, Sienna looked in the direction he indicated. Inside, Josiah lay in bed, with a nurse keeping watch by his side.

"Because of you, my son is still in critical condition," said Andy.

Andy clenched his teeth in hatred. "Listen carefully. If he's fine, I'll spare your worthless life. If he."

He trailed off, unwilling to curse his son.

After a moment of silence, he continued, "You won't live either."

Sienna's back stiffened.

The next second, the bodyguards threw her onto the couch.

Andy stood up and glanced at Ethan. "Keep an eye on her. If anything else

happens, you'll bear the consequences."

"I got it. Mr. Evans."

Silence descended upon the room after they left.

Sienna sat there in a daze. She leaned against the couch, faced the glass wall, and observed everything inside.

Josiah was lying down, so Sienna couldn't see his face. Al she saw was the respirator he was wearing.

'Is his condition so serious that he can't breathe on his own? Why?

What happened?' Sienna wondered.

Sienna looked up at the bodyguard beside her. "What happened to him?"

The bodyguard gave her a cold look. "Don't you know? Because of your brother,

Mr. Evans was bitten twice by a viper. He carried your brother on his back and walked in the mountains for more than two hours..."

The bodyguard then continued, "He wasn't treated in time, so the toxin entered his body, and the concentration of toxin in his blood was too high, which led to paralysis of the whole body muscles and breathing."

Sienna's face turned pale. She did not expect his injury to be that serious.

Suddenly, Josiah sat up from the hospital bed.

"Ugh." He vomited projectively.

The nurse hurriedly took the trash can to catch it for him. At the same time, she pressed the call bell.

"Chief surgeon, please come here."

Josiah did not regain his consciousness. After vomiting, he fell straight back.

Soon, the door to the ward was pushed open. The doctor came in and went straight to the inner room.

Sienna couldn't hear what they were saying through the soundproof glass wall. All she could see was the doctor's mouth opening and closing.

The nurse listened at the side, nodding from time to time. After that, she took the medicine from the treatment cart next to her and put it for Josiah.

Moments later, the situation was probably under control temporarily.

The doctor came out.

Sienna parted her thin lips and called, "Doctor."

The doctor turned his head to look at her, and then at the two bodyguards, not quite understanding what her relationship with the Evans family was.

He explained objectively, "The toxin has not been cleared. That's why he vomited, and vomiting is also detoxifying."

"So." critical condition.

Sienna remembered Andy's words that Josiah was still in "Will he be okay?" Her voice trembled unconsciously.

The doctor frowned and shook his head. "I can't guarantee anything right now. It depends on how well the toxins are purged."

"I see.." Sienna froze for a moment. Her throat felt as if it were glued shut, making

it hard to speak. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. We'll do our best..." The doctor left.

Sienna stared straight ahead. Suddenly, she asked the bodyguard, "Can I go in and see him?"

The two bodyguards exchanged glances and nodded. "Go ahead."

They thought, 'She's tied up anyway, and even if she weren't, a young woman like her could not possibly do anything to Mr. Edgar.' Besides, they were watching.

Sienna's upper body was tightly bound, making her struggle to stand up.noveldrama

The bodyguard opened the door for her, and she tiptoed inside, stopping by the bedside.

She looked down at him quietly.

After a long time, she spoke softly, murmuring, "Josiah..."

The person on the bed didn't react.

Sienna closed her eyes, and finally, tears spilled from the corners of her eyes.

She blinked, trying to force the tears back, but she couldn't.

"Ha." she curled her lips. A cold smile flashed on her face, full of sarcasm.

"What do you think you're doing? Do you think you're some kind of hero? Do you think I'll be touched and grateful?" she asked.

Her words were purely rhetorical and accusations.

Her chest pounded, and her eyes grew redder. Tears streamed down her face as her smile deepened.

She chuckled softly. "You are such an interesting person. When you didn't care, you disappeared for years without a word. But now, you're willing to risk your

life

She couldn't forget how he almost got her killed in Fliraty.

But now, he was lying there and almost dying.

She could not understand what he had done. He had treated her extremely badly

in the past, but now, he was so good to her.

Sienna choked even more.

Unbearable sharp pain spread from her heart to her fingertips.

Hatred and worry intertwined in her eyes.

"Life and death are up to fate, so don't blame me if you die," said Sienna.

Beep!

Suddenly, the monitor let out a sharp alarm.

The nurse took a look and immediately stepped forward. She grabbed a syringe

from the treatment cart and held his arm.

After disinfecting the IV catheter on his arm, she injected the medicine.

In less than a minute, the alarm stopped.

The nurse glanced at her. "He's fine for now."

Sienna was already stunned. Her lips slightly parted, and she was breathing

heavily.

Just as the nurse finished speaking, Sienna's knees suddenly buckled, and she

knelt to the ground.

Her forehead rested on the edge of the bed, and her lips trembled.

She murmured in a low voice, "Josiah, I. Let bygones be bygones..."

Sienna closed her eyes tightly.

The memories of those four years in Fliraty flashed through her mind. It was like a nightmare that had haunted her ever since.

The pent-up emotions surged out like a broken dam. Sienna's tears rolled down

silently.

"I hate you. I really hate you.. I hate you for marrying me without love, and I hate

you for ignoring me for four years..." Sienna sobbed.

Her emotions bubbled up with her

tears, making her feel bitter and ov erwhelmed Sienna struggled to raise her head, looking at Josiah's sleeping face. Her voice was low and hoarse as she uttered, "Lask myself..."

She took a deep breath, recalling the events one by one.

"Without you, could I have escaped the Fliraty explosion unscathed? Would I still

be under investigation and in a lawsuit with Reyna?" Sienna asked.

She choked, "Would Conner have returned safe and sound this time? Would

Joyce's surgery have gone ahead as planned?"

"Josiah, I believe you. I believe you are genuinely good to Joyce and me.. I really

do believe you." Sienna took a deep breath, trying to hold back her tears.

She then continued, "Dr. Nelson said

that Joyce's surgery will proceed as scheduled... When Joyce comes out safety from the surgery room, and

when you wake up, I."
